Stratford School students understand that many people traveled long distances from other countries before settling in America.

In a first grade history lesson about the Jamestown Colony, students consider what the colonists would have seen, heard, eaten and used in a typical day. They research and discuss various hardships the colonists would have encountered, and how they prevailed despite difficult conditions.

By looking back on the nation’s colonial history, students can more easily relate to current events like immigration, and understand how the various talents and experiences of people from other countries were woven together to comprise the fabric of modern day America.
