Reopening and Reuniting at Stratford in the Age of COVID-19

As California counties have begun to allow schools to reopen for in-person instruction, many of Stratford’s schools are in the process of welcoming K-8 students back to campus, with stringent health and safety protocols in place.  Prospective families are invited to schedule a tour and learn more.

Fourth Grade

By fourth grade, Stratford students have learned to take risks and embrace failures

Fourth grade at Stratford School looks very different than most Grade 4 programs, and our Core Knowledge curriculum is accelerated to ensure that students are prepared for the academic rigor of middle school with essential social and emotional skills as well.

Stratford fourth graders thrive with our STEAM-based curriculum, providing them with the opportunity to apply engineering principles of creation, testing, and analysis to all of their coursework.

Our teachers are renowned for their innovative approach to collaborative work in the classroom. Students learn to think critically, to question each other, and to apply the creative principals learned in art and music classes to technical challenges.

A Day in the Life: Stratford Elementary School

Stratford School’s elementary program focuses on daily Core Knowledge sessions in math, vocabulary, grammar, reading, and writing. Students also explore specialty subjects several times each week, including music, physical education, art, and Spanish. The schedule below offers a detailed look at what your child will be learning and doing every day, and reflects the Stratford School commitment to providing an uplifting education for every child.
Spotlight on Music
Stratford School’s fourth grade music curriculum combines music theory, history, and performance.  Each month, fourth graders study a famous composer’s music, style and life, often in conjunction with topics being covered in history. Students also explore the different elements of music, and teachers introduce music theory concepts in a fun and interactive way, incorporating rhythm, beats, and movement. Fourth graders put on a choreographed and memorized performance twice a year for fellow students and family in one of Stratford’s auditoriums.
