Reopening and Reuniting at Stratford in the Age of COVID-19

As California counties have begun to allow schools to reopen for in-person instruction, many of Stratford’s schools are in the process of welcoming K-8 students back to campus, with stringent health and safety protocols in place.  Prospective families are invited to schedule a tour and learn more.

Calculating Wizards

Mental math is an important step in solving math problems, and this course will provide your child with practice and tricks in how to solve problems and calculate numbers…fast!  Students will apply their mental math skills to puzzles, riddles, games, team activities, and collaborative projects.  Students will learn how to solve math problems with several different approaches and how to check their work carefully.

Building with Math

Using principles from such subjects as geometry and algebra, students will learn how to apply mathematics to building projects.  Students will design innovative structures using math, and will build and enhance their artistic representations.  Interactive projects will include unique designs, as well as well-known monuments such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Eiffel Tower.  This hands-on approach to math has proven to increase student skills at a steady pace while they are having fun and staying active.

Adventures with Word Problems

Solving word problems requires a special set of skills beyond calculation.  Our Word Problem Adventures will lead kids on a fun journey through the steps and best practices for solving word problems, how to set up mathematical problems correctly, and how to check for accuracy.  An emphasis will be placed on math vocabulary and how a proper understanding of the words in a word problem is crucial to mastery. Interactive games, competitions, and relays will keep kids on their toes as they increase their estimating skills and number sense.
