Reopening and Reuniting at Stratford in the Age of COVID-19

As California counties have begun to allow schools to reopen for in-person instruction, many of Stratford’s schools are in the process of welcoming K-8 students back to campus, with stringent health and safety protocols in place.  Prospective families are invited to schedule a tour and learn more.

Third Grade

Third grade is an exciting time for Stratford students!

Third grade at Stratford is challenging and fun, focused on the development of each child’s unique gifts, talents, and personality.

The art and music are infused throughout the third grade curriculum, too, with twice weekly sessions that highlight great composers and fine artists in a variety of media, helping students see the natural connection between technology and creativity.

Grade 3 students aren’t simply memorizing principles of engineering – they actively participate in hands-on exercises as part of a team to put principles into action, solving complex problems posed by gifted teachers who let the students “figure it out” themselves.

A Day in the Life: Stratford Elementary School

Stratford School’s elementary program focuses on daily Core Knowledge sessions in math, vocabulary, grammar, reading, and writing. Students also explore specialty subjects several times each week, including music, physical education, art, and Spanish. The schedule below offers a detailed look at what your child will be learning and doing every day, and reflects the Stratford School commitment to providing an uplifting education for every child.
Spotlight on Science
The Stratford School third grade science curriculum is centered around concepts, with an emphasis on inquiry and innovation. Students study topics that lend to questions, fostering curiosity of “how does it work” and leading to open-ended engineering activities. Using technology, models, and other tools, third graders study the scientific method, as well as biology, environmental science, and physics. The majority of science assessments are based on hands-on labs.
