Only At San Francisco Middle School

Choosing Stratford San Francisco Middle School

We know that parents have many choices for their child’s education. So, why do families choose Stratford School and stay with us until their child graduates? It’s because so many wonderful things happen at our private middle school. Let us tell you more!

Our Special Projects

Exciting Field Trips

Stratford students enjoy three memorable trips during their time with us. In 6th grade, they head to the YMCA Science Camp: Camp Campbell in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where they stay in cabins, explore nature trails, and experience hands-on outdoor learning. In 7th grade, students venture to even bigger mountains for a weeklong camping trip in Yosemite, where the adventure includes everything from scenic hikes to the yearly question: Will it snow, or will it be 70 degrees? Finally, in 8th grade, students celebrate their final month at Stratford with an unforgettable journey to Washington, D.C., Williamsburg, and Philadelphia. They stay in motels, travel by coach bus, and pick up plenty of cool souvenirs along the way.

Randall Museum Science Fair

Our students apply the scientific method by developing their own unique questions and projects under the guidance of science teacher Mr. Fong, who leads 6th- and 7th-grade participants through the process during the fall term. They present their work to parents, peers, and teachers at the SFMS Science Fair, where a select group of winners will be chosen to advance and compete at the Randall Museum as part of the Golden Gate STEM Fair.

Journalism Club

Our Journalism Club meets weekly to support both the school yearbook and newspaper, offering students hands-on experience in photography, reporting, editing, and publishing. Throughout the year, members work together to produce two editions of the school newspaper. One is released before Christmas Break and the other before Spring Break. By learning to observe, document, and share the stories around them, students help build a vibrant and connected school community.

Etiquette Program

The Etiquette Program, powered by Manners-To-Go, teaches students how to interact courteously and confidently in a variety of social situations, equipping them with skills that support success both in and beyond the classroom. Through lessons that build self-esteem, strengthen communication, and encourage poise in unfamiliar settings, students learn to make positive first impressions that can open doors throughout their lives. The program emphasizes first impressions, communication skills, and table manners.

CYO Sports

Stratford San Francisco Middle School is highly active in CYO sports, fielding competitive teams for both boys and girls throughout the school year. In the fall, students participate in Boys’ Soccer and Girls’ Volleyball; in the winter, they compete in Girls’ Soccer and Boys’ Basketball; and the year concludes with spring seasons of Girls’ Basketball and Boys’ Volleyball. The school also offers Cross Country for all students and takes part in CYO’s annual Track and Field Day, giving every student the opportunity to showcase their athletic skills and school spirit.
