How do teachers at Stratford School Milpitas Beresford Square communicate with families? We recognize that clear communication is one of the most important aspects of choosing a school for your child. That is why we make it a top priority between families and staff. In addition to fostering strong, personal connections through in-person conversations, email, and phone communication, PowerSchool gives our elementary families real-time access to important information such as attendance, term grades, assessment results, school announcements, and messages from teachers. For our early childhood families, we use an app called Procare, which allows us to share photos and videos, send and receive instant messages, and distribute newsletters and other important updates. We believe that keeping you well-informed helps us create the most supportive and engaging learning environment for your child.
How is technology used in the classroom?
We design our curriculum to include STEAM and technology from preschool through elementary school. In our early childhood classes, students use both unplugged and plugged tools, like Bee-Bot and Dash & Dot robots, to learn how to think logically and solve problems. In kindergarten, students continue using the Dash & Dot robots to build problem-solving skills and start learning simple coding with Blockly. Starting in 1st grade, students take computer science as a special subject, where they continue exploring technology and creative thinking.
How does Stratford foster social-emotional learning and character development?
Stratford helps students grow in both social-emotional learning and character. We want students to do well in school and also become kind, caring individuals who make positive choices.
Through the Character Counts Program, students learn about six important traits: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. These values are part of daily lessons, school assemblies, and special awards for students who show good character.
The Stop & Think Program teaches students to pause and think before they act. Instead of using punishment, this program helps students understand how their choices affect others and how to make better decisions next time.
A positive school culture helps everyone feel welcome and respected. Students learn to work together, show empathy, and include others. They also participate in leadership and community service activities that foster teamwork and responsibility.
Finally, families play an important part in this process. We share ideas and resources with parents so they can support character growth at home. Working together, we help every child learn, grow, and succeed.
