Mandarin Programs

Our Mandarin Bilingual Programs are 2025 CLASS Award Winning*

Stratford’s newly expanded Mandarin Bilingual program for Preschool through Kindergarten builds upon foundational knowledge, skills, and concepts in our core STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) curriculum, and provides culturally-enriched activities that promote Mandarin language acquisition. Eager bilingual learners will also enjoy new school experiences while developing socialization skills.

Our immersive bilingual environment is designed to promote consistency and continuity for young learners. Stratford’s advanced curriculum is taught by speaking and instructing in Mandarin and English. This team teaching approach creates an inclusive and responsive space in which individual needs are met, ensuring students feel safe and secure to explore, take risks, and learn without limits.

*Stratford School has been selected as a 2025 CLASS Outstanding K-16 Chinese Program Award winner! This award, from the Chinese Language Association of Secondary and Elementary Schools, honors excellence in curriculum innovation, student learning, and community engagement through Stratford’s Mandarin program.

We utilize a proprietary curriculum, programming, and progression with an emphasis on STEAM education. Our adaptive learning programs personalize each student’s experience with the support of digital tools such as iReady, MATHia, and Newsela.

Classes are taught by Stratford teachers, trained in online teaching methods, with lesson pacing to match Stratford students’ on-campus experience. We utilize Schoology as our learning management system with Zoom as the means of delivering daily-live instruction.

The class schedule includes frequent 1:1 sessions with the teacher and open office hours daily for students and parents to ask the teacher questions. We have morning and afternoon homerooms, where students work on SEL and digital citizenship skills, as well as prepare for the day. We have small class sizes with a maximum of 24 students per class.

We foster a sense of belonging with unique celebrations and traditions, including monthly family nights, library events, and parent coffees. Our campus also has a parent committee, which is active in supporting class specific events, and a student council, which is key to putting together our school-wide fundraisers and events. We also offer online clubs Mondays – Thursdays.

Academic rigor is complemented by the arts in the Stratford elementary curriculum, with elements of STEAM programming woven through each area of instruction.

Elementary students are immersed in Core Knowledge classes in math, vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing every day – building sequentially on skills throughout the program.

Elementary students learn to examine all aspects of a problem, ask questions to gain additional information, and work collaboratively to create a solution.

Learning study skills and completing homework are essential to success at Stratford, but students find joy in the challenge.

Stratford’s Middle School program includes robust science and mathematics, along with an emphasis on critical thinking and problem solving.

Middle School students delve deeply into complex problems, and work together to develop solutions. They learn to ask questions, and to always look for more information to inform their decisions and answers.

Stratford’s intentional approach to educating the whole child results in young adults who are gifted communicators, skilled and generous collaborators, and creative problem solvers.

Stratford Middle School students graduate prepared to excel at outstanding high schools and beyond.

Students explore problem-solving exercises with classmates, without a specified outcome or direction from the teacher, where they learn to build, test, fail, and try again.

In SMART circles, Preschool and Pre-kindergarten students learn the fundamentals essential for future success in mathematics.

With a piano in every classroom and specialty music instructors, our preschool students play, sing, and dance daily – developing motor skills, encouraging movement, and instilling an appreciation of the arts.

During daily SMART Phonics lessons, teachers ask critical questions, and utilize visual aids, songs, and movement to keep  students engaged.
