Choosing Stratford San Jose Middle School

We recognize that parents have numerous options for their child’s education. Why do families choose Stratford School and stay with us until their child graduates? It’s because so many wonderful things happen at our private elementary and middle school. Let us tell you more!

8th Grade Marketing Project

Our 8th-grade students take part in a dynamic marketing project. Using what they have learned about propaganda and marketing techniques from the novel Animal Farm, they connect the story’s themes to real-world situations and create campaigns for real companies. This project helps them thoroughly digest the book’s meaning and reinforces the necessity for critical thinking when interacting with communication and media. With the prevalence of social media and questionable sources, these are skills that will benefit them in their everyday lives.

Spirit of Excellence

Each month during our Social Emotional Assemblies, individual students of merit receive the Spirit of Excellence award. Teachers choose these students because they have demonstrated one or more important values in an outstanding way. These values include Kindness and Compassion, Respect and Responsibility, Integrity and Honesty, Courage and Determination, and Teamwork and Leadership. This program helps students to identify good character in themselves and others.

Competitive Sports

Our school is part of the Silicon Valley Athletic League (SVAL) and offers sports teams for both girls and boys. Students have the opportunity to join a team to play flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and track. Playing sports at SJMS helps students grow mentally, physically, and emotionally. Through these activities, they learn important values such as sportsmanship, hard work, teamwork, dedication, honesty, and always doing their best.

Community Outreach

Our students are part of a global community, and they are encouraged to help others in need. They take part in important charity activities, like raising money for groups such as Second Harvest Food Bank and the American Heart Association. These groups help people stay healthy and get the food they need. Students also work with a group called KIVA. KIVA gives small loans to people in poor areas so they can start a business, go to school, get medical care, or pay for other important needs. When the loan is paid back, the money is used to help someone else. This way, students help many people and make the world a better place.
