When I was a worried little 6th grader, I feared that middle school was going to be terrifying. I heard things from the older kids, informing me that there would be bullies and mean girls, but trust me, middle school isn’t going to be like Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
Junior high differs from elementary for sure, but not in the way you probably think it does. First of all, the thing that probably scares you the most is that you have to switch classrooms each period. Before, you just simply had to stay in one classroom. It will be a bit hard to get used to, but after a few weeks, switching from class to class is a snap!
Also, you may hear that some teachers are scary monsters. Trust me, they don’t bite. Although they may grade hard, that may be a sign for you to put a little extra effort. You can ask them to help you after school, and your teachers will be glad to help.
Finally, the myth that I heard that was the scariest of them all was that there would be bullies, mean girls, and cliques. The movies that I watched made me envision middle school as a place where awkward teens embarrass themselves. Middle school isn’t like the movies portray it as at all. The characters in these flicks may be in your school, but not in the stereotypical way that they are displayed as in the movies.
Overall, everyone stays in a community in middle school. I hope that I’ve been able to debunk a couple myths that you once thought to be true and calmed your nerves about the next three years of your middle school life.
DISCLAIMER! Middle school isn’t like the movies at all. Mean girls and jocks may be in your school, but not in the stereotypical way that they are displayed as in the movies.
